Our Dream

As a group with personal experience navigating the difficulties of non-accessible spaces, our vision is to grow a vibrant, disability-friendly garden that inspires connection with nature and overall wellbeing.

Serenity Gardens will put accessibility first by featuring wide paths and clear signage, raised beds that allow wheelchair access, sensory gardens that engage the whole person, and thoughtfully designed landscapes that promote relaxation and tranquility.

As the garden grows, we plan to offer educational programs about local plants, sustainable gardening practices, and environmental stewardship. We plan to use the vegetables grown in the garden to support local food banks and feed the community. We hope the garden can also serve as a gathering place for wellness events, fitness workshops, and community activities that encourage healthy living.

Through our activities, we aim to remove social and physical barriers to outdoor recreation, enhance the health and well-being of all community members, and model best practices in the creation of universally accessible public spaces.

We invite you to join us in our mission to nurture and enjoy the natural world and the diverse people within it.

Our Plan

With accessibility and holistic well-being as our guiding principals, we aim to create a space that fulfills the needs of our diverse community.

Some features we have planned include:

  • Therapeutic garden design

  • Smooth, wide, slip-resistant pathways with compliant handrails

  • Accessible signage (large print, braille, digital, etc.)

  • Raised garden beds for inclusive gardening experiences

  • Sensory features (e.g. tactile surfaces, fragrant planting, soothing water features, and tasty garden samples)

  • Accessible seating areas and picnic tables

  • Ample and compliant accessible parking spaces

  • Community Vegetable Garden for Food Bank donation and local support

  • Restrooms and hydration stations designed for accessibility

  • Inclusive gardening, education, and fitness workshops
