Inspired by a personal journey, we dream of a place where everyone can experience peace, beauty, and connection with nature.
Our Founder (Kristi) and late husband (Dale)
We share a deep love for the healing power of nature and a commitment to welcoming people of all abilities.
Serenity Gardens and Nature Center began with a simple belief: time spent in nature can restore the spirit, calm the mind, and bring comfort to the soul.
As a lifelong lover of gardens and the outdoors, I have always found peace among trees, flowers, and quiet paths. After many years working as a nurse, I also saw how important moments of calm and beauty can be for people who are facing difficulties, illness, stress, or the demands of caregiving.
The idea for Serenity Gardens became deeply personal during the final years of my late husband’s life. As his health declined, he relied on a wheelchair, yet he still longed to spend time outdoors. We often tried to visit parks and gardens together, but many of the paths and spaces made it difficult—or sometimes impossible—for him to move comfortably through them. Watching him struggle to reach places that should have been welcoming to everyone made a lasting impression on me.
At the same time, my years as a nurse had shown me that many patients and their caregivers faced the same challenge. Accessible outdoor spaces—places where people of all abilities could relax, reflect, and simply enjoy nature—were often hard to find.
While caring for my husband, I realized that something meaningful could grow from that experience. I began imagining a garden designed with accessibility in mind—smooth paths, welcoming spaces, and peaceful natural surroundings where people with disabilities of all kinds, families, caregivers, and community members could all enjoy the beauty of the outdoors together.
From that vision, Serenity Gardens & Nature Center was born. Established as a Georgia public nonprofit charity and an IRS 501(c)(3), the organization was created so that everyone—regardless of mobility or circumstance—can experience the healing and joy that nature offers.
Today, Serenity Gardens continues to grow from that original inspiration: a place where accessibility, compassion, and the restorative power of nature come together to serve the community. 🌿
